The Aeolian Islands, also known as the Lipari Islands are an archipelago of seven volcanic islands located off the north coast of Sicily, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, which are named after the god Aeolus, king of the winds.
In the year 2000 have been awarded the title of World Heritage Site by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve as well as cultural heritage.
The island of Vulcano represents the ends 'more' low archipelago and has a length of about 21 km ² and a population of about 800 inhabitants
Vulcan and 'known for volcanic events in nature exhaling (fumaroles) and hot ifanghi useful for spa treatments and primarily for the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases

 

The Attractions

 
Porto Levante and Porto di Ponente:


Between the two harbors lies the island's main town, a village full of shops and featuring contemporary sculptures made of lava stone (Hephaestus and the Pandora's box of the port, the rest of Aeolus in the main square).


The Crater:


From Porto Levante along a path on the side of the mountain, which offers beautiful views over the archipelago the peninsula of Vulcanello, Lipari and Salina, with its characteristic profile two mountains, and in the distance Filicudi (clear days you can see also Alicudi, then Panarea, with its isles, and Stromboli in the background. Approximately halfway meets once red-clay, cut with deep furrows.
The more you go, the more the smell of sulfur is intense, with occasional cloud of steam.
At the top is a magnificent scenery: the great abyss of the Fossa crater southern rim, a cloud of boiling sulphurous vapors, with a hissing sound that seems to come directly from the center of the earth, arise from the split surface, the rock is stained yellow ocher and red and condense into delicate crystals while still hot. These are called fumaroles.
Around the crater (about 30 minutes) you will discover the southern part dell'isole
and in the climax. to enjoy one of the best views of the archipelago.


The Beaches:


The two beaches are located in the main center and they are: the black beaches (Porto di Ponente) so called because of the color of the sand of volcanic origin that occupy a beautiful bay and beach Fumarole bathed in water heated by bubbling sulphurous steam can reach very high temperatures.
The secluded and less frequented beach Gelso is instead on the opposite side of the island and can be reached by sea, by bus leaving from Porto di Levante or along the main road from Porto Levante to Vulcano Piano and then branches to the Mulberry and Capo Grillo.


Horse Cave and pool of Venus:


The boat is raggiungePartendo the black beaches. It circumnavigates Vulcanello, with the Valley of Monsters, before the most indented part of the coast on the way to this beautiful cave which owes its name to the presence of seahorses. On the left there is the Venus pool, spa and crystal clear shallow waters where you can swim unforgettable).
